Hernando, Miss. (December 17, 2012) – Holli McNeer, a senior at Hernando High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.

McNeer is one of seven students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for English & Literature. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. McNeer and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis on Thursday, May 2, 2013.

McNeer is a hard working and conscientious student, holds a 97.3 weighted grade point average and scored 29 on the ACT. She has taken both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. Literary analysis comes naturally to her. McNeer is a member of the National Honor Society and the Interact Club, a school organization that supports causes like autism awareness.

An important member of the school’s band, McNeer plays the timpani in the percussion section. She was honored as “Most Improved Percussionist” in the ninth grade and “Most Outstanding Percussionist” in the tenth grade. McNeer earned spots in the Mississippi State University Honor Band and the I-55 Honor Band last year. This year she serves as pit section leader for the school’s marching band. The percussion section won first place at the state competition recently.

The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.

Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
